THE TERRITORY:
Barcelona is located on the northeast coast of the Iberian Peninsula, facing the Mediterranean Sea, on a plain approximately 5 km wide limited by the mountain range of Collserola, the Llobregat river to the southwest and the Besòs river to the north. This plain covers an area of 170 km2 (66 sq mi), of which 101 km² are occupied by the city itself. It is 120 km (75 mi) south of the Pyrenees and the Catalan border with France.
The city borders on the municipalities of Santa Coloma de Gramenet and Sant Adrià de Besòs to the north; the Mediterranean Sea to the east; El Prat de Llobregat and L'Hospitalet de Llobregat to the south; and Sant Feliu de Llobregt, Sant Just Desvern, Esplugues de Llobregat, Sant Cugat del Vallès, and Montcada i Reixac to the west.
THE WEATHER:
Barcelona has a typical Mediterranean climate. The Mediterranean climate is situated between the Latitude Range: 30° - 45° N and in the east of the continents. The winter is relativly humid but mild and the summer is dry. The rainy seasons are the once in between, autumn and spring. The distinguishing marks of this climate are the 3 to 5 months of the dry summer, which is caused by the sinking air of the subtropical highs. There are very few days of extreme temperature, heat or cold, and that`s why the average of the minimum and the maximum in Barcelona is temperate, typical for the Mediterranean mild climate.
